Second, the CWRU chapter of the ACM will be hosting a first-of-its-kind event, Starcraft Musical chairs.

Almost everyone has played Starcraft, but not like this!

  • 4 computers will be set up with Starcraft installed.
  • A standard map will be used in a 4 player free for all.
  • Players will be forced to get up at random intervals and move to another computer.

Announcing Gringo Warrior

Friday, March 21st, 2008

What happens when a good time goes bad? Imagine you are traveling south of the border and are kidnapped by criminals intent on extortion. Could you use your wits, stealth, and a hidden set of lockpicks to escape to freedom?

This year at Notacon, The Open Organization of Lockpickers will be running a scenario-based game in which contestants must use picking skills to free themselves from evil captors in under five minutes.

The course will offer a variety of locks representing a range of difficulty, allowing participation by people of all skill levels. Points will be awarded based on the time of completion as well as the difficulty of locks attempted. Big fun for all involved and a super-kickass prize for the winner…. come and have fun being a Gringo Warrior!

Check out Gringo Warrior and all the other Notacon events on the Games, Events and Performances page.

Get your dose of the DailyWTF at Notacon!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Do you enjoy seeing cryptic error messages so unexplainable that you simply sit dumb-founded looking at your screen? Perhaps you have seen such poorly written code that it must have been written as a joke, until you talk to the clueless developer and realize that it really what they intended to write? If so, we encourage you to attend Alex Papadimoulis’ presentation, “Curious Perversions in Information Technology” during Notacon!

Alex is an editor of the immensely popular website The Daily WTF. The site provides a regular dose of amusing stories, screenshots, cluelessly written code and other golden nuggets as submitted by numerous contributors. His presentation will be a mix of some of his favorite Daily WTF entries and stories as well as his thoughts on software and the industry as a whole.

Register now for Notacon and check out our presenters. Time is running out, so act now!
