@party registration closes on June 6th!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Just a head’s up that registration for @party, located in Harvard, Massachusetts, closes on June 6th! You only have a few more days to buy your tickets!

Tyger and I had a great time last year, and hung around a lot of other Notacon/PixelJam/Blockparty folks. Their registration price is super cheap at only $55 and the venue (a country hostel) is awesomely unique and inviting. Unfortunately we can’t make it this year due to the little one, but I wanted to encourage all of YOU to do so in our stead!

All of the information you could possibly want is on their website, located at

Recycled Rainbow @ Notacon. Friday night’s experience

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Recycled Rainbow wants YOU to get involved in the performance! On Friday, April 16th, the organizers of Recycled Rainbow will take control over the Notacon ballroom and transform it into a palette upon which YOU can build your own interactive experience!

As part of that interactive experience, they need YOUR images & music to include in their multimedia presentation. Therefore, we are calling out to everyone in the Notacon community to submit all photos & images to by April 15th.

We ask you to wear as much WHITE as possible during this presentation, as it will enhance your ability to interact with the project. White shoes, pants, shirts, hats, gloves … MASKS!

As a bonus, they’ll be DJ’ing music as a backdrop to the presentation (dancing is both permitted & encouraged!) They want suggestions for songs YOU would like to hear! Email them to

So get involved now and start your Notacon experience early. Then join us on Friday night when we dim the lights and turn on myriad projectors for an event you have to show up and build to fully appreciate!

And don’t forget: Friday night, wear white!

Eric Meyer: The Future of the Web (Is Now)

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Tonight I had the pleasure of hearing former Notacon Speaker and CSS Celebrity Eric Meyer speak about the future of the web at Tri-C West Campus. A brief bio of Eric from tonight’s talk can be found here.

In the presentation Eric covered the current and future of web browsers and programming. The primary focus of the presentation was HTML5 and CSS3 and how much these technologies have changed to become what they are today. Eric also talked about what he believes the future of HTML and CSS will be.

Here are three specific examples that he used to illustrate HTML5 and CSS3:

  • html5 audio/canvas experiment
  • html5 drum kit
  • CSS 3D Transforms
  • I look forward to seeing many demos coded in HTML and CSS. I also recommend following Eric Meyer and Complex Spiral Consulting and seeing Eric talk if you have a chance.

Also, if you are involved in web design and haven’t heard of A List Apart, allow me to introduce you to a treasure of a resource. Also check out the An Event Apart conference. Look for one in your area, or make a vacation out of it!

    A hackerspace? In Cleveland?

    Friday, December 11th, 2009

The Makers’ Alliance has been receiving growing interest here in Cleveland as we start to look around for a physical location for our first Cleveland hackerspace. Tonight there were 19 people at the meeting in Lakewood.

If you’re in the greater Cleveland area and interested in joining, supporting, or in some other way participating with the formation of this space, please get in touch or join the mailing list. Meetings will be regularly scheduled starting after the holidays. The site will progressively get more information as things get organized.

Notacon is strongly affiliated with The Makers’ Alliance and hope that these two conjoined communities can thrive for many years to come.

    @party – June 18-20, 2010

A new demoparty is starting up near Boston, MA. The name is @party, and they really have their act together. Dates and venue are already posted, as well as a great description of what a demoparty is, for those of you who feel you don’t “get it”.

If you think you might be interested in participating in @party, they’ve requested we share this Survey. Please fill it out, and read more about @party.

Froggy and I plan to go, and hope to see you there!
