@party registration closes on June 6th!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Just a head’s up that registration for @party, located in Harvard, Massachusetts, closes on June 6th! You only have a few more days to buy your tickets!

Tyger and I had a great time last year, and hung around a lot of other Notacon/PixelJam/Blockparty folks. Their registration price is super cheap at only $55 and the venue (a country hostel) is awesomely unique and inviting. Unfortunately we can’t make it this year due to the little one, but I wanted to encourage all of YOU to do so in our stead!

All of the information you could possibly want is on their website, located at http://atparty-demoscene.net/

Seth Hardy, creator of the Notacon 8 board badge, just posted the schematics for the board on his SVN server. Check them out, if you are so technically inclined and interested.

Also, we still have a few more parts kits, add-ons and spare batteries for the badges, for those interested.

We are now shipping Notacon 8 badge parts kits for those who pre-ordered them! Thank you all for your patience while we gathered orders, ordered the parts, built the kits and got them to the post office!

For those who missed out, we actually have enough parts leftover to put together a few spare its. If you are still interested in a kit, please order them quickly before they’re gone for good at:

As a side and more personal note, after being effectively without employment for over 6 months now, I am planning on trying to make a full-time job out of Notacon and Nerd’s Nook. Thus, your support, word-of-mouth mentions and, of course, orders, not only help support Notacon, but also, hopefully, me, as I put all of my efforts into making Notacon better than ever before!

New Keynote Speaker (and Updated Security Policy)

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Notacon is thrilled to announce that U.S. President Barack Obama will be providing a keynote speech at Notacon this year. Scheduling and topic details are still being sorted out, but we are very happy to welcome such a distinguished guest of honor to this year’s event.

Also, please be aware that there will be enhanced security measures at the conference this year. All attendees will be required to submit to a thorough background screening. Details about this process will be posted soon. Additionally, all event entrances will be equipped with backscatter x-ray equipment. We will do our best to keep delays to a minimum, but please allow extra time when attending conference schedules.

More information about the updated security procedures can be found on the registration page.

Hotel block NOT SOLD OUT (yet!)

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

There’s been some confusion as of late regarding the availability of rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cleveland for Notacon 8. Rooms are still available! However, if for some reason you do not book under our hotel block than, yes, you will be told the hotel is sold out. Both Tyger and I have exchanged numerous frantic emails with the hotel this week to clear up any confusion. They have been extremely helpful and provide a direct contact at the hotel than you can call to book a room if the website isn’t working for you or if their reservations department is being finicky. That person’s contact information is located in bold print on our hotel and travel information page.

Also, you shouldn’t need to register for all four days our rate is good for (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) to get the rate. If you have any questions, please contact the hotel. If they give you a hard time, then please contact us and we’ll sort it out.

We DO anticipate the hotel selling out and I will work with another hotel coming up this week. I want to make sure we sell out our rooms first, of course :)

Thanks for your patience and sorry for all of the confusion!

Speakers posted for Notacon 8. Book your rooms NOW!

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Notacon 8 is proud to present our list of presenters. Out of a record number of proposals submissions this year, our content selection committee worked hard to select the best of the best. We hope you agree! The entire Notacon staff would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who submitted proposals to present. It is our pleasure to make difficult decisions when selecting among so many great proposals.

I wanted to take the opportunity to remind everyone attending Notacon to book your rooms NOW. I know many people wait until the last minute, but this year things are trickier. The special room rate of $99 will go away on March 23rd or sooner. If you are thinking about coming to Notacon, please book your room now so that you don’t get left out! There are Indians’ baseball games going on the same weekend as Notacon, and the likelihood of extra rooms is non-existent. Once our room block is sold out, it will likely be sold out for good! So please book your rooms soon!

See you all in just over 45 days!
